We love telling stories about our local history. Next to our artifacts, our volunteers are the most prized and valued part of our museum. Without our volunteers we simply do not have a museum and our artifacts fall silent with no one to share their stories. Please consider joining our team by volunteering in any capacity. We are always needing folks of all ages, experience and passions—folks like yourself to become part of our museum. Volunteering not for You? Please consider then, to become a member. Memberships and donations are well, frankly speaking, allow us to keep the doors open and the lights turned on. We are a 100% volunteer organization funded by donations, fund raising and gift shop sales. We do not receive funding from the City of Nampa.

Our volunteers are our most valuable quality next to our artifacts. In appreciation of their commitment to excellence we like share what our volunteers are doing at the depot.
Meet Merry Jo, our Manager of the Whistle Stop Bookstore. Merry Jo joined us at the Depot Museum in March of 2022. She has lived in Nampa for 35 years and raised her family here. Her 9 years of experience in education as an elementary school librarian and as a classroom aide makes her very comfortable working with children and families that come to our museum. Merry Jo is currently the Library Director at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, is retired and enjoys many hobbies and activities. She is passionate about teaching people of all ages about what we can learn from each other, especially those who came before us. Merry Jo believes that people in the past are not just names in a census record—they lived and laughed justlike we do. Merry Jo enjoys stocking a wide range of educational and informative books and toys in our bookstore. And by-the-way, when at the depot, ask Merry Jo about her chickens, horses, carriage driving, quilting, weaving and grandchildren.
Meet Mary Sue, our Director of Accessions. Mary Sue is a transplant from the Midwest via Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii. She was a minister’s wife for many years and she and her husband, Lowell, retired to Nampa in 2011. Her friend, Merry Jo, was invited to join the Canyon County Historical Society by volunteer Wendy Coome in the spring of 2022. She in turn invited Mary Sue to join her in helping with the Spring Tea in May and after that, Mary Sue was hooked! Mary Sue is one of her family’s historians and has a love of history passed down through her father. So, being asked to work in Accessions at the depot was considered an honor and privilege. For a person who loves to work with details and has a passion for history, this position has become most fulfilling for her. Along with serving at the depot, Mary Sue is a member of Heart ‘n’ Hands Quilters here in Nampa, an organization that makes quilts for local and worldwide charities. She is also very active in her church, Nampa First Church of the Nazarene.
